What better way to celebrate the New Year than in Moscow's incredible Red Square, after enjoying Xmas in Russia with us. You'll have free time before the big day to see all the sights of Moscow. There's so much to do in this lively city, perhaps try some ice skating in Gorky park or experience a range of sights and smells in the fresh food market of Dorogomilovsky. Admire modern Russian art in the New Tretyakov Gallery or the work of artists from as far back as the 11th Century in the Old Gallery, and marvel at the hundreds of random sculptures laid out with wooden walk ways in nearby Sculpture Park, or simply enjoy some of the many bars and restaurants.
On New Year's Eve or 'Noivy God' as it is in Russian many of the locals take to the streets with champagne in hand as midnight approaches. There's a great atmosphere, with fireworks and rockets lighting up the skies. Look out for people dressed as 'Grandfather Frost', or Dyed Moroz, the Russian equivalent of Father Christmas, and his female counterpart, 'The Snow Maiden', or Snegurochka! 'Snovum Godom!' (Happy New Year!).
