ABU SIMBEL (by road) - USD $89
Possibly the most awe-inspiring temple of all ancient Egypt, with its gargantuan rock-cut façade is the magnificent Abu Simbel. You may have seen it on TV? Guarding the entrance to the temple are 4 colossal seated statues of the pharoah himself, staring out across Lake Nasser. Over the centuries the temple was all but lost to humanity due to shifting desert sands, however it was rediscovered by chance in 1813 by a Swiss explorer and eventually in the early 60's an excavation team restored it and once again the full glory of the temple of Abu Simbel was revealed to the modern world. This excursion is not to be missed! Includes return bus journey from Aswan - Abu Simbel (approximaely 3½ hours each way) and fully guided sightseeing. Entrance fees excluded, budget approx USD$16.

Ordinarily you would travel from Aswan to Luxor on a felucca, a simple Egyptian sailboat which usually rates high on the ‘major highlight’ list of most GOBUS passengers. However, the felucca is not always everyone’s cup of tea so if you have your reservations about ‘slumming it’ then why not totally indulge and cruise the Nile in style on a 5* cruiser? The cruise offers fully air-conditioned twin/double cabins with private bathroom, plenty of room on deck with a swimming pool, restaurant and bar.
