Cologne Carnival!

Get yourself to Cologne for the biggest Carnival in the northern hemisphere. Five days of crazy colourful costumes, exploring, sheer revelling and of course tasty German beer, are just waiting to be had!

Cologne Carnival 2009 has already happened - dates have not been released for next year but please keep checking, below is the 2009 itinerary which should be similar to what we are offering next year.

5 DAY HOSTEL ITINERARY

Day 1: Friday 20th February
After making your way to Cologne please head to the Meininger Hostel any time from 3pm onwards where you will be able to check in to your allocated rooms. Later this evening join the rest of your tour group for a night out in the heart of Cologne to enjoy some traditional beer and German cuisine at a local 'Brauhaus' (Beer House). Lets see where the evening takes us!

Day 2: Saturday 21st February
Our first day in this beautiful city will be spent exploring its famous architecture and history. After getting into the Carnival spirit with a 'Fruhschoppen' (breakfast beer) at the local pub, we will join our English speaking local guide for a walking tour of the city's many sights. The afternoon is free for you to experience Cologne at your own pace - some suggestions of things to do and see are: visit to the world famous 'Chocolate Museum', discover the world's most beautiful Cathedral, the Koelner Dom, hit the high street for European bargains, or relax on the banks of the Rhein with a cold stein and take in the festival atmosphere.

Tonight is party night! We have a special reservation at one of Cologne's favourite nightspots for a big celebration, carnival style! Don't forget your costumes!

Day 3: Sunday 22nd February
A free day for you to catch up on some much needed sleep, or discover more of Cologne. Please see your Tour Leader for ideas of what to do and see around the city. Alternatively, head to the pub and experience the carnival spirit amongst locals. Tonight we finish off this relaxed day by meeting for a night of drinking and dancing in the hostel bar.

Day 4: Monday 23rd February - 'Rose Monday'
The big day is upon us! An early rise in order to try and secure decent spots on the parade route. Today is Rose Monday and one of the world's biggest and most colourful carnival parades hits the streets of Cologne! Get dressed in your brightest glad rags or costumes and let's get the party started! When the parade concludes, we will follow the masses and party with the locals in the Old Town pubs and breweries.

Day 5: Tuesday 24th February
All good things must come to an end. Check out today is after breakfast, which ends our trip. Free luggage storage facilities are available at the hostel for your convenience. Happy Travelling!
