DAY 1: ISTANBUL
Saturday 23 Apr 2011. Welcome to Turkey! Upon arrival make your own way to your hotel in Istanbul by metro train, Havas airport bus or taxi. The rest of the day is free for you to explore Istanbul, it's a compact city and very easy to get around. You'll find most of the main tourist attractions in Sultanhamet within walking distance or a short metro ride from our hotel. If you get time check out the beautiful Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia and Topkapi Palace or if a little retail therapy appeals, head to the Grand Bazaar.
Overnight Istanbul
DAY 2: GALLIPOLI
Breakfast. Early this morning departure to Gallipoli. En route to the Peninsular we'll stop for a bite, stretch our legs and stock up on supplies for the evening ahead. Arriving at the Dawn Service site by 1pm, the afternoon is free for you to explore the many memorials, battlefields and trenches. Now is the ideal time to sort a vantage spot on the grass or tiered seating, then take in the loaded atmosphere as the legendary wait for first light commences. Overnight Dawn Service Site - Gallipoli
DAY 3: ANZAC DAY
First light heralds the Dawn Service, then you’ll have loads of time to independently explore the many trenches and memorial sites as you make your way up to Lone Pine or Chunuk Bair for the Australian or New Zealand National services. The service at Chunuk Bair usually starts about an hour after the Australian service at Lone Pine. If you’re a Kiwi, head straight to Chunuk Bair. It’s a good walk uphill and you’ll be struggling to view both services. Later this afternoon, we’ll depart. (Timing on 25 April subject to coach traffic). Overnight Istanbul.
DAY 4: ISTANBUL
Tuesday 26 Apr 2011. After breakfast (09:00am), we enjoy a 2 hour cruise along the Bosphorus. The Bosphorus stretches out in front of the old city and is the strait of water that divides the continents of Europe and Asia. Returning to the hotel before 12 noon, hotel check out marks the end of a memorable 4 day ANZAC experience.
Note: Istanbul sites are closed on the following days, this in NO WAY affects your touring program: Grand Bazaar and Egyptian Spice Market - closed Sunday, Hagia Sofia - closed Monday, Topkapi Palace closed on Tuesday.
Experience wonderful Turkey without breaking the bank! Visit stunning Istanbul, Gallipoli, Roman ruins, the gorgeous Aegean coast, hot springs of Pammukale and magical Cappadocia.
It's almost that time of year again. Not that an excuse to raise a stein of fine German beer is ever needed but here's one anyway. Oktoberfest only comes once a year and its almost upon us so get in fast.
